Founded by author John Waite in 1989 with a handful of enthusiasts, the ET&WNC Railroad Historical
Society has expanded to hundreds of loyal followers of the little narrow gauge railroad. Intent upon
preserving the history of the railroad, the Society has been instrumental in helping save several of the few
remaining pieces of rolling stock and structures. We also help in the conservation and dissemination of
artifacts, photos and historical documents pertaining to the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina
Railroad/Linville River Railway. The Historical Society hosts a yearly convention to conduct our business,
promote the sharing of knowledge and to explore and enjoy the ET&WNC Railroad area.
A one-year membership to the non-profit Historical Society is $30.00, which funds the Society's projects.
Included with this membership are newsletters and a subscription to the twice-yearly journal of the Society,
Every Time With No Complaint, produced for the organization by author/historian Johnny Graybeal.
Does the ET&WNC Railroad sound intriguing? Would you like to learn more about this wonderful little
railroad? Come share our passion...join the Historical Society and get to know what the ET&WNC Railroad
was all about. Contact Treasurer Patricia Jennings for more information about a membership or dues.
The 30th Annual Convention of the Historical Society was held June 1, 2 & 3, 2018 at the beautiful
Carnegie Hotel in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee. This year's agenda featured logging railroad
talks and a right-of-way tour in the Grandfather Mountain area by trail expert Randy Johnson.
Our 30th Annual Convention turned out to be very informative, as promised!
Contact Vice-President Jerry Turbyfill for more information about future Society conventions.
