About the ET&WNC Railroad Historical Society

Founded by author and historian John Waite in 1989 with a handful of enthusiasts, the ET&WNC Railroad Historical Society has expanded to hundreds of loyal followers of the little narrow gauge railroad. Intent upon preserving the history of the railroad, the Society has been instrumental in helping save several of the few remaining pieces of rolling stock and structures. We also help in the conservation and dissemination of artifacts, photos and historical documents pertaining to the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad and the Linville River Railway. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation with an all-volunteer staff.

The Historical Society hosts a yearly convention in the ET&WNC area to conduct our business, promote the sharing of knowledge of the railroad, and explore and enjoy the ET&WNC Railroad area.

Does the ET&WNC Railroad sound intriguing? Would you like to learn more about this wonderful little railroad? Come share our passion — Join the Historical Society and get to know what the ET&WNC Railroad was all about.
