Historical Society
Annual Conventions

Since its inception in 1989 the Historical Society has hosted a yearly convention to conduct our business, promote the sharing of knowledge and to explore and enjoy the ET&WNC Railroad area. The convention is usually held in June in the ET&WNC area and for the last few years has been headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee. The convention has also been located in Boone and Banner Elk, NC in past years. Photos and activities from many of the early conventions can be found here.

The 30th Annual Convention of the Historical Society was held June 1, 2 & 3, 2018 at the beautiful Carnegie Hotel in downtown Johnson City. This year's agenda featured logging railroad talks and a right-of-way tour in the Grandfather Mountain area by trail expert Randy Johnson. Our 30th Annual Convention turned out to be very informative, as promised!

Upcoming Conventions

Our 31st Annual Convention will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 31 thru June 2, 2019 in Johnson City at the Carnegie Hotel. The Convention will once again be held in conjunction with the Big Train Show in the ETSU Mini-Dome. Make your plans now to attend!

Contact our vice-president Jerry Turbyfill for more information about future Society conventions.
